Writing for kids / Kids who write!

I recently received an email from Jaclyn, a teacher who has been working with young writers through a community workshop. She and her students ran across my website and were kind enough to tell me it was helpful.

Hooray!! I love helping writers, especially kid and teen writers.

When I'm not writing (or lately, drawing), my day job involves overseeing 10-20 students who struggle with dyslexia, dysgraphia, reading comprehension, and/or writing composition. I love these kids and their families. They believe in the power of reading and writing to improve our lives.

The fun part of my job is to motivate and celebrate students who:

• Discover something new

• Have a learning breakthrough

• Get excited about reading

• Have written something for which they're proud

Jaclyn told me about one of her students, Mia, who was frustrated trying to remember which writing site or app or resource to use to stay organized. She wanted to find what she needed, when she needed it. Mia and her mom went on a Google scavenger hunt and found a resource that lists and links a great selection of websites and apps that writers of any age will find helpful. So when Jaclyn asked if I'd consider adding Mia's link to my site, I'm sure it's not a surprise, I said
